Experiment conventions

Standards every published experiment should meet.

Product rules

  • Solve one clear problem.
  • Prefer real behavior over theater.
  • Label simulations explicitly.
  • Keep secrets server-side.
  • Distinguish Next.js features from Vercel-specific capabilities.

Docs SEO

  • Keep MDX frontmatter title and description aligned with lib/experiments/data.ts.
  • Registry description is the SEO snippet (max 280 chars); docs metadata, OG cards, and TechArticle JSON-LD prefer it.
  • List every experiment docs path in content/docs/meta.json so it appears in the sidebar and sitemap discovery.

Code rules

  • Validate untrusted input with Zod.
  • Isolate demo failures so one broken experiment cannot crash the directory.
  • Lazy-load demos through the registry loader map.
  • Provide loading, empty, and error states.
  • Document environment variables and external services honestly.

Accessibility

  • Keyboard operable controls
  • Visible focus states
  • Accessible names and live announcements for important async updates
  • Honor prefers-reduced-motion
